Human Nature, by Sheetal Gandhi
On June 17th, 2011, Director/Choreographer/Performer Sheetal Gandhi will be showing a new work called "Human Nature" for one night only at Grand Performances in downtown Los Angeles. The piece is a multi-media, dance-theater reinterpretation of Shel Silverstein's timeless and controversial classic, "The Giving Tree".  Sheetal plays "the boy" and "the tree" with the voice of the tree represented and inspired by the songs of Bill Withers. NAVARASA DANCE COMPANY Presents the premiere of Encounter, by Aparna Sindhoor and Anil Natyaveda on September 24 & 25, October 1 & 2, 2010, at The Dance Complex, Julie Ince Thompson Theater (536 Massachusetts Ave), Cambridge, MAEncounter, a work of contemporary dance theater, explores various kinds of encounters, from encounter with the divine to gravity to the military, using poems, songs and stories. Poems by Sufi poet Kabir, Bhakti poet Akka Mahadevi, songs including Bob Marley’s and a short story by Mahasweta Devi are part of the encounters. Choreography is inspired by Indian dance, world music, theater and martial art (Kalaripayattu). Performers are: Aparna Sindhoor, Anil Natyaveda, Rajesh Raveendran, Raghu Narayanan, Smitha Radhakrishnan, Vyvyane Loh, Soumya Ramanathan and Jill Cunningham

INDISTAGE is presenting the West Coast premier of Mahesh Dattani's play 30 Days in September, directed by Rooben Morgan, starting on July 23 at 8pm through August 1 at the Off Market Theatre, 965 Mission Street, San Francisco. 30 Days in September is a play that takes an intricate and in-depth look at an Indian family that is both typical and atypical at the same time. It follows the painful journey of Mala, who after years of abuse and dysfunctional relationships meets Deepak, a man who refuses to stop loving her.
