NEW PLAY COMPETITION: Entries are invited in English from playwrights of Indian origin from all over the world for the Sultan Padamsee Award for Playwriting organized by Theatre Group. The winning play will receive an award of Rs 100,000/- and the two runners up will get a cash prize of Rs 10,000/- each. Necessary Angel's season includes a new work from Michael Ondaatje in collaboration with Artistic Director Daniel Brooks to debut Feb 8-20, 2011 at Tarragon Theatre. We'll post more details in the new year!

Wajahat Ali's play The Domestic Crusaders will be published in Fall 2010 by McSweeney's Publishing.

Ravi Jain and his co-actor Adam Paolozza won the award for "Outstanding Performance in a Featured Role / Ensemble" for Spent at this year's Dora Awards on June 28. Congratulations, Ravi! If anyone saw this satirical, surreal, hilarious play about climbing and falling off the corporate ladder, you will agree it was a tour-de-force performance. Katyayani Theatre group (India) is experimenting with different genres of theatre this year. They travelled to Hyderabad, Dubai and Muscat with their rambunctious retro-Bollywood musical Mahim Junction, and will be performing it in Mumbai and China later this year. Come July they have a dramatic reading of three Stephen King stories in a multi-media format before an invited audience at the American Centre in July. In November they launch their new production, Tributaries, based on the lives of two women poet saints from the Bhakti and Sufi streams, who challenged patriarchy by living life on their own terms. Ravi Jain and Anusree Roy were both nominated for Dora Awards this year! Anusree for Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Performance by a Female for Letters to my Grandma; Ravi and the Ensemble of Spent for Outstanding New Play or Musical (Independent Theatre) and Outstanding Performance.
